IEA's key milestones in the pathway to net zero

Very interesting summary picture from IEA with key milestones in the pathway to net zero.

  • No new coal plants and oil & gas fields for new developments starting from 2021
  • No new sales of fossil fuel boilers from 2025
  • Majority of global car sales are electric and all new buildings are zero-carbon-ready from 2030
  • No new ICE car sales from 2035
  • Phase-out of all unabated coal and oil power plants from 2040
  • 50% of heating demand met by heat pumps

Obviously, this is just a road map but trends are obvious and will be followed by governments, businesses and financial organisations.
